Key Facts

This year we are once again hosting the Carnegie Mellon Women's Mathematics Competition in the fall. This contest is open to all middle and high school students. Those who are female or non-binary are encouraged to participate, regardless of prior math contest experience. Everyone who participates in CMWMC is also invited to attend our spring math contest, CMIMC.

The contest will be held in-person at Carnegie Mellon University on October 28, 2023. There will be individual and team rounds in addition to fun mini-events. There is no cost to participate.

Format
Individual Round

The individual round contains problems on Algebra, Number Theory, Geometry, Combinatorics, and Computer Science. 

Relay Round

Teams will work to solve sets of problems where each team member works on one problem of the set and passes their answer to the next team member, who will use that answer to solve their own problem, like a relay! No other communication is allowed. You don't have to wait for the person before you to finish before you start working on your problem. Only the last team member's submission will be graded.

Guts Round

Teams will work together to solve sets of problems. After completing one set, the next problem set will be given. Teams cannot return to edit answers from a previous set.

For women only

Application Components

All contestants and coaches must fill out a waiver, which includes:

  • Release form for minors (under 18 years old)

  • Release form for adults (18 years and older)

The waver form can be found on the competition website.
