For Summer 2023
You'll be able to choose from three- and six-week sessions offered between May 30 and August 1 (see the calendar). You'll be on a fast-paced schedule, learning 15 weeks of coursework in a condensed period as you study in a real college environment.
Most online courses are delivered via the web-based learning system Canvas. Generally, you'll interact with the instructor and other students via email, discussion boards, interactive chat rooms, video conferences, and/or phone.
Some classes are offered synchronously (live and on a predetermined schedule) while others are asynchronous (pre-recorded and on your own schedule). Learn more about synchronous (sync) and asynchronous (async) instruction modes.
We can only review complete applications. This means you must submit your online application and all required documents listed below before the deadline.
Course selections
Students in a three-week summer session may select one three-week course.
Students in the six-week summer session may select up to three six-week courses that total no more than 8 credits.
You may combine online courses from different sessions. Read about combining courses.
Note: On your application, you’ll be asked to select a first- and second-choice course. If your first-choice course is full, you’ll be placed on the waiting list for that course and enrolled in your second-choice course instead. Being placed on a waiting list simply reflects that enrollment in your first-choice course has already reached its maximum; it does not indicate any admissions committee concerns about your academic ability. Again, we encourage you to apply early for the best chance of getting into your first-choice course.
There are no exceptions to the following requirements:
To attend a precollege course, you must be at least 15 years of age on or before the start of your class.
You must be a high school sophomore, junior, or senior (or the international equivalent) at the time you apply.
You must have the demonstrated academic ability, maturity, and intellectual curiosity necessary to undertake college-level work.
See individual courses for specific eligibility requirements.
International students must have the following minimum scores to apply to Precollege Studies:
100 and above on the TOEFL iBT and TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition

Admissions decisions for online courses in the Cornell University Precollege Summer Program are made on a rolling basis, which means that we will review and act on complete applications as they are received. Because most of our courses fill before the deadline, we encourage you to apply as early as possible.
Tuition is $1,680 per credit for fall 2022 through summer 2023.
Example: A three-credit course at $1,680 per credit = $5,040
Additional costs and fees
Some online courses may also charge nonrefundable course fees to cover mandatory items such as reading materials or course supplies. (Note: Cornell tuition does not include textbooks for the class.)
All tuition and fees must be paid within two business days of your official course enrollment or you'll be dropped from the course.
Financial Aid
Financial aid is available for online courses in summer 2023.
Precollege Studies awards a limited number of partial scholarships based on:
A family's demonstrated financial need
A student's academic achievement and promise
The availability of funds
Scholarships are reserved for credit-bearing online summer courses.
In determining need, we consider a number of factors, such as family income and other available resources, family size, the number of siblings in college, exceptional family medical expenses, and/or geographic differences in the cost of living.
Financial aid is available to eligible U.S. and international students.
Precollege Studies financial aid operates independently of Cornell University's Office of Financial Aid.
Award amounts
Award amounts vary from $1,680 (Cornell tuition rate for one credit) to $5,040 (rate for three credits). If you're awarded a partial scholarship, you must let us know immediately whether you accept it.
The balance is due as soon as you receive your financial aid decision, whether or not you are awarded aid.
If you anticipate that the remaining balance will still be burdensome for your family, we suggest you begin now to investigate, with the help of your guidance counselor and others in your community, possible sources of additional financial aid.
We cannot guarantee that all eligible applicants will receive aid, even if they apply well before the financial aid deadline.
Financial aid deadline: March 31, 2023
