The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is pleased to announce the 2023 virtual summer institute. Students will learn the basics of computer programming in the Python programming language, as well as the basics of programming embedded systems, using the ESP32 which is a low-cost, low-power microcontroller with integrated Wi-Fi.

The four-day virtual summer camp on computer programming and hardware gives aspiring engineers the chance to learn about how fundamental disciplines within ECE, such as signal processing, computer hardware and software, circuits, and algorithms, contribute to the technology that powers our world, from cell phones to autonomous vehicles.
There are no prerequisites for enrollment. Students do not need to know how to program a computer, nor need to have any experience with electronics.
The engineering summer camp is delivered by remote synchronous learning on Zoom. Students must have access to a computer.
Hardware will be mailed to student home address in advance. Computer must have USB port to plug in the microcontroller board. Access to a smartphone that can connect to a Wi-Fi network is desirable.
Applicant must be a rising high school junior or senior as of Fall 2023.
The content is well-suited for students potentially interested in computer or engineering-related college majors.
