Each year, about 1,500 students participate in Summer Session for a variety of reasons. Some enroll in courses to help reach their second major, or minor, or certificate. Some see it as a great opportunity to focus on more difficult courses or foreign language classes. Others want to get some courses out of the way so they can study abroad later. And still others use Summer Session to take courses they have difficulty getting in to during the regular academic year. But all agree, the casual and more relaxed environment of the summer classes, coupled with the individual attention they receive, make Duke University Summer Session special.
Duke Summer Session offers courses from across the arts and sciences so you can get ahead in you major, minors, and certificates; complete general education requirements, and delve into your interests. Courses are primarily offered in-person, with a selection of online courses available.
Summer Session courses are open to currently enrolled Duke and DKU undergraduates, and undergraduate students from other universities. Select Term 2 courses are also open to advanced, academically qualified rising high school juniors and seniors.
Credit options for high school students include courses at Duke University for local commuter students and online courses for non-commuters, including international high school students.
All course meeting times are according to Eastern Time (ET). Please carefully consider whether the meeting time will be feasible for your schedule. Class times are for synchronous (face-to-face) online meetings. Asynchronous classes (those with limited or no face-to-face meetings) are indicated in the course descriptions.
