ELIO Academy offers comprehensive programs for academically motivated middle and high school students. Our instructors are successful Scientists, Medical Doctors, Pharmacologists, or Ph.D level experts. Students engage in Live-lectures, Discussions, and Guided-Projects.

ELIO academy offers a 2-week program onsite and online program in which bio-medically oriented high school students are invited to learn basic skills of scientific research from career scientists pursuing research at several world renowned institutes in US.
The goal of the program is to nurture the interest in biomedical sciences and research early on. Our students learn and apply techniques for a medically oriented project. The program concludes with presentation at the closing colloquium.
Course offerings include: Cancer Biology, Immunology & Immunotherapy, Genomics Data Science, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, and Virology.
There are no prerequisite courses for the program, as the experienced instructors cover the basics needed for comprehending the concepts and engaging in discussions. More information is available at the student testimonials page.
Our online version of the program enables students from across the world to be a part of this exciting learning opportunity, from instructors and from each other.
Students learn building hypotheses, collaboration, navigating scientific literature, and making and presenting scientific presentations, focused upon the course content and science breakthroughs.
We have a large online presence and supportive community of student alumni, who have gone on to their own successful paths.
By the conclusion of the course, students will have a good understanding and exposure to diverse fields of biomedical sciences. With the provided resources and continued support of our mentors, students will pursue their interests and learn during their school year. Our past students have found the course helpful in crystallizing their path forward in college/career via extended biomedical summer internships.

As a part of this health biomedical sciences summer camp and its nurturing community - Our students will have access to all our instructors, alumni, and fellow students to discuss and ask questions long after the course completion.
We offer both, commuter and online courses. The online classes are Live lectures taught by successful Scientists, Medical Doctors, Pharmacologists, or Ph.D. in the field.
The two week courses are offered in Summer (dates avaiable on website) with lectures spanning 10AM to 4PM with a 1.5 hour lunch break in between.
Commuter program has similar schedule as followed by campus students.
At Elio, students learn by discussion. Mentors discuss literature and publications in groups. We teach how to identify the core question and pursue the solution in a systematic and scientific way. We also help secure long-term biomedical internships for high-school students.
Research is conducted in small focused-group setting for deeper dive.

I am a rising senior at a high school in Seattle. I decided to take the Genetic Science & Cancer Biology (Online) by Elio Academy because I was interested in learning more about the genetic basis of cancer. I took a course called "Introduction to Genetic Science & Cancer Biology" and I really enjoyed it.
The course was taught by a professor who was very knowledgeable about genetic science and cancer biology and he showed us a lot of great examples of how genetics can play a role in cancer development, such as in the case of hereditary cancers. I also learned a lot about different aspects of cancer biology, such as tumor growth and metastasis.
Overall, I had a great experience taking the Genetic Science & Cancer Biology (Online) by Elio Academy. I would definitely recommend it to other high school students who are interested in learning more about cancer or genetic science.

The course was taught by a professor who was very knowledgeable about cancer research and she showed us a lot of great examples of the latest advances in cancer research, such as the development of new drugs and treatments, the use of gene therapy, and the development of personalized medicine. I also learned a lot about different aspects of cancer prevention, such as the role of genetics, the environment, and lifestyle factors.

For Online program:
1. Age: 14-18 years. Students aspiring for a career in Medicine or biomedical field. We recommend the courses for high school students asthe topics are very relevant extensions to biology and AP biology that they learn as part of their school curriculum.
2. We do accept some exceptional middle school students who are motivated and driven. Therefore we emphasise, tell us your story and about your interest in your statement of purpose.
3. No prior coursework required: Our highly experienced instructors introduce the topics before diving into complexity of subjects.
For commuter program:
1. Students must currently be juniors or seniors at the time of application (as of the fall semester of academic year). Must be in the graduating class in next 2-3 years.
2. Students must also be 16 years old or older by the start of the program.
3. Students must be able to commute to UC Berkeley campus for the program.

The selection process takes into account past grades, recommendation letter and importantly on passion/questions/SOP etc. Also, students must be able to start the program on June. To apply, please complete the online form along with recommendation letter and recent transcripts.
