Discover a variety of course opportunities for high school students this summer with Northwestern University and prepare for college success. Get a taste of college academics — explore different subjects or get a head start on the major of your dreams!

One of the best ways to prepare for college is to get a taste of college life and academics. Take this opportunity to explore different subjects or get a head start on the major of your dreams. The College Prep Program offers undergraduate courses, both online and in person, for college credit taught by Northwestern faculty and instructors who assume the same level of commitment and involvement from you that they do from college students. The expectations are high, the rewards are long-lasting.
Residential students must enroll in one of the following:
- Three weeks: Students must enroll in two three week classes.
- Six weeks: Students must enroll in at least one six week class AND a second five or six week class.
The College Prep Program offers online and in person courses. Residential Scholars live on campus in Northwestern University residence halls. Commuting Scholars attend classes while commuting from their homes in the Chicago area or staying with relatives living nearby. With either option, you can participate in weekday and weekend Summer Session activities including lunchtime entertainment on Lake Michigan, barbecues on the beach and an evening outdoor film festival. Other University-sponsored activities, such as theatre and music performances, are open to all students.
Students cannot be active in more than one program or take classes from a program other than that which they are enrolled in (e-FOCUS/IN FOCUS/Credit Online/Credit In Person).
Students applying to the College Credit option are required to submit official transcripts. Please see additional transcript information on the admissions page.
Each credit course is worth one credit unit, unless otherwise noted in the course description. One credit unit is typically equivalent to four quarter hours or two and two-thirds semester credit hours at other colleges. This information may be useful when you are an undergraduate student looking to transfer your Northwestern college credit unit(s) towards your undergraduate degree.
Credit courses include access to our "Wildcat Connect: Get Ready Series". This series adds an additional robust co-curricular component to your schedule outside of the classroom with interactive workshops that will prepare you for college and integrate you into the Wildcat community!
