GSTEM is an NYU summer research program for talented high school students who want to learn in an inclusive, supportive environment. Our program strives to break down barriers and empower those who have been historically underrepresented in STEM—especially girls and other minorities.
GSTEM is a six-week summer program for high school students with an interest in pursuing academic and career paths in STEM. Students are paired with a STEM professor or researcher and work on individual projects in a field of their choosing. In addition to earning first-hand research experience in real STEM labs, students take weekly field trips to meet women working in a variety of STEM fields.
By participating, you'll develop your laboratory techniques and programming skills, scientific writing abilities, and presentation skills. You'll boost your college readiness and have opportunities to make lasting connections with peers from around the world.
GSTEM offers supportive and inclusive learning environment that breaks down barriers and empowers those who have been historically underrepresented in STEM—science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Any student interested in living on-campus during the summer may apply. Additional information is available through the application process.

Summer housing is available on campus for interested students, and a wide variety of evening and weekend activities—like Broadway shows, walking tours, and great dining experiences—happen regularly. GSTEM can offer you an unforgettable summer in NYC!
The program is open to current juniors with a high aptitude in STEM and an interest in learning in an environment that celebrates diverse perspectives in the sciences. We will consider outstanding sophomores if there is space available. We admit 40 students each summer.
GSTEM's mission is to support those historically underrepresented in STEM. Anyone who supports our mission is welcome to apply.

Financial Aid
Financial Aid
We offer need-based financial support for any student that may require help with the tuition. (We really do!) On the GSTEM application you will see a checkbox to receive more information. Students will then be sent a form that asks for parental income documentation that is submitted to the office of Financial Aid. If a student qualifies, we will offer assistance equaling all or part of the tuition cost. Each year we offer generous financial aid packages and encourage anyone who may need help to apply. (At this time financial aid does not cover the cost of housing.)
Winston Data Scholarship
Most people do not realize how data science affects their every day lives. Traffic jam? That’s data. Searching for a good brunch place? That’s data. Are those shoes you want available in your size? That’s data. And it’s an integral part of science and research. Learning how to collect, analyze, and interpret data is quickly becoming one of the most sought after skills in STEM.
The Winston Data Scholarship is a merit-based, competitive opportunity open to any student interested in learning more about data science. Recipients are required to perform a small, data-science project to complement their regularly assigned summer research project. We provide all the resources. The student provides the curiosity.
On the GSTEM application applicants will submit an additional essay on data science (instructions are provided on the application) which will be reviewed by our admissions committee. The Winston Data Scholarship covers the program’s tuition in full. (At this time the scholarship does not cover the cost of housing.)
