Join one of the premiere educational experiences for pre-college students! The Anson L. Clark Scholar Program is an intensive seven-week summer research program for twelve highly qualified high school juniors and seniors.

The Program at Texas Tech University helps the Scholars to have a hands-on practical research experience with outstanding and experienced faculty. Students may apply to the following research areas in 2023.

Format

The Clark Scholars Program is designed to attract gifted students from around the nation and globe. The program allows students the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with outstanding faculty on the general academic campus and the Health Science Center in a research intensive setting. The seven-week program also includes weekly seminars, discussions, and field trips. The students are afforded an atmosphere designed to develop their critical thinking abilities and career interests with faculty and other students like themselves.

Eligibility

• Highly qualified high school juniors and seniors.
• Applicants must be at least 17 years of age by the program start date, and should graduate in 2023 or 2024. (This means they will participate the summer before senior year or the summer after senior graduation of high school.).
• International Students are eligible/welcome to apply.

Application Components:
1 - Online application

2 - Essays - Short essays will be required for your application.

3 - High School Transcripts - Transcripts must be uploaded to the application. Any AP Course test scores should be uploaded as well. (International students must have transcripts translated to English.)

4 - College Admissions Standardized Test Scores - Test scores should be uploaded. (At least a PSAT score is required if SAT or ACT scores are not available by the deadline. International students are not required to submit scores but highly encouraged to do so.)

5 - Recommendations - Three recommendations are required. At least two must be from teachers, and the third can be from a teacher, research mentor, principal investigator or from a volunteer organization.

(Recommendations are completed through an online questionnaire and not an actual written letter. Be sure to communicate this to your recommenders. Instructions will also be automatically sent to referees once their information is input and saved. Recommendations are due two weeks later than the student deadline. International applicants must have recommendations translated to English.)

6 - List of Top 5 Activities - The student should list what they consider their most important involvment activities/accomplishments. These can include academic honors or awards, research programs, and other extracurricular activities in and outside of school. (Please note - The essay prompt about the applicant's most fulfilling service experience creates an opportunity to write about a sixth activity. Keep this in mind, as a resume or an additional list of activities is not allowed.)

 

Deadline

The 2023 application is closed. Scholar selections will be completed no later than early May. Scholars will be notified directly via phone call and email.

There are no program/registration fees and the following is covered by the program:
- On-campus meals
- On-campus room and board
- Weekend activities/programming

Expenses not covered by the program:
- Travel to and from the program location
- Personal expenses
- Medical expenses

 

Financial Aid

Upon completion of a successful project report, the scholar will receive a $750 tax-free stipend.
