A diverse and welcoming campus, UCLA Summer Session offers over 800 rigorous in person and virtual courses for its high school students. Applicants may choose 1-2 courses from the immense collection provided.
UCLA’s signature summer offering. Choose from over 800 in person courses that represent UCLA’s academic breadth, ranging from 6-10 weeks. Over 10,000 UCLA students and thousands of visiting students from across the United States and the world take Summer Courses each year.
High school students may choose 1-2 courses from our Approved List.
The university offers furnished residence halls and residential suites within easy walking distance of classrooms, libraries, and recreational facilities for summer students who are 17 years of age or older by move-in date. Housing is available for periods of 3, 6, 8, 9, 10, and 12 weeks.
UCLA also offers furnished University Apartments near campus. To be eligible for University Apartments, you must be 18 or older by the move-in date.
Short-term stays can be accommodated by the UCLA Hostel.
High school students may enroll in 1-2 approved courses only (10 units max). The links below will direct either to the specific course page or the subject area if there are multiple lectures, modalities (online vs. in-person), or sessions (Session A vs. Session C) offered.
Some courses will include mandatory discussions (Dis) or laboratory (Lab) sections which will be italicized in the list below. For those courses, you must enroll in the discussion/lab first which automatically enrolls you in the lecture; you may verify this on your Study List.
Course availability and modality is subject to change.
Course Requisites & Restrictions
Some courses require students to have taken specific courses to enroll. Transcripts or proof of completion of a requisite course is not required for non-UCLA students. Although proof is not required, visiting students should have experience comparable to the listed requisite. Furthermore, a small number of courses may be restricted to specific populations (e.g., UCLA students only). To view whether your desired course has restrictions, visit the Schedule of Classes, search for the course, then click on the symbol underneath the "Info" section.
If you are a high school student, you must be 15 years of age of older by June 26, 2023 to participate in Summer Courses, Summer Online, or Summer Intensives. Additionally, high school students may only enroll in courses on the pre-approved list unless given permission in advance from the UCLA Summer Sessions Office.
Lastly, students wishing to take MATH 1 or MATH 31A must take the Math Diagnostic Exam. For more information, visit the UCLA Mathematics Department website.
