Whatever your current interests, you will discover new disciplines and topics that will push you outside your comfort zone and challenge your perceptions. The programme also offers sessions on study skills, how to apply to a UK University, and careers.
Providing high school students with a taste of undergraduate study
The programme is both intellectually stimulating and intensive, and consists of pre-recorded lectures and live Zoom sessions on a wide range of topics and disciplines, delivered by leading Cambridge academics and invited specialists. Talks are currently being finalised, but are likely to include topics which fall into the following subject fields:
Astronomy; Biology; Classics; Economics; Engineering; Evolution; History; History of Science; International Development; Literature; Philosophy; Physics; Politics and International Relations; Psychology; Sociology; Sustainability; Technology.
The two-week virtual programme combines subject specific lectures with sessions on study skills, careers and how to apply to a UK University. There will also be the opportunity to take part in live sessions hosted by current University of Cambridge students, as well as exchanging ideas with fellow participants via our online forums.
It is essential that you let us know about any additional requirements as soon as possible so that we can offer you the support and advice you require before the start of your programme, enabling a smooth transition to your studies. Please ensure you include any additional requirements when applying for the programme. Please note that all of our talks are subtitled.
To ensure that all participants meet the age criteria, and relevant consent forms are signed when booking you will need to:
upload a copy of your passport or ID card which provides evidence of your date of birth and a recent picture of yourself
ask your parent/guardian to download, read and sign the Virtual Pre-University Summer Programme consent forms
upload the signed consent forms
If English is not your native language, you will need to satisfy yourself that you have an appropriate level of English language proficiency in line with the following recommended tests (achieved in the same sitting and no more than 2 years before the date of booking):
IELTS (Academic), IELTS for UKVI Academic or IELTS Indicator: Minimum overall band score of 6.5 or above, with no less than 6.0 in each of the four components
C1 Advanced: Overall score of 180, with no element lower than 176 OR CAE (Cambridge English Advanced): Grade A or B or 176 points overall on the Cambridge English Scale
C2 Proficiency: Overall score of 200, with no element lower than 185 OR CPE (Cambridge English: Proficiency): Grade C or above or 200 points overall on the Cambridge English Scale
TOEFL iBT or TOEFL Home Edition: Overall score of 92 with no individual element below 22
Alternatively, you may have undertaken all, or part, of your education in English. On this basis, you could reasonably expect to participate fully in the programme.
If an option is full at the time of booking you can add yourself to a waiting list. You will be notified, by email, if a place becomes available. We recommend that you book early to avoid missing out.
