The Youth International English Program (Youth IEP) offers different courses of study designed to meet the educational goals of a wide variety of youth students. The Youth IEP is a summer camp suitable for students (ages 13 – 18) of all English language ability levels, from beginner to advanced, and provides customized educational, social, and cross-cultural experiences that develop students’ English language ability and sense of belonging to a global community.

The Youth International English Program offers an exciting and enriching experience for students seeking to improve their English, experience Canadian culture, and enjoy their summer in Canada. Students in the Youth IEP will have a schedule filled with enriching classes, fun activities, and unforgettable excursions to some of Canada’s most incredible tourist attractions.

General English Course (GEC)
The General English Course (GEC) offers daily classes led by fully-accredited English language teachers that develop all aspects of students’ English language abilities, including: speaking, listening, writing, reading, grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. The aim of the course is to help students improve their confidence, fluency, and accuracy through a variety of communicative activities, such as collaborative projects, discussions, and presentations. Students are encouraged throughout the course to share their own knowledge and experience in the classroom.

General English classes focus on learning grammar and vocabulary by communicating with others. Students wishing additional practice have the option of taking an afternoon speaking class such as the Intensive English Course.

GEC is a good fit for you if:
- you are looking to develop all aspects of your English abilities: speaking, listening, writing, reading, and vocabulary;
- you are looking to improve your confidence, fluency, and grammatical accuracy;
- you have been studying English in your own country and can use opportunity to practice with other speakers of English.
Note: GEC is designed for students of all levels, from beginner to advanced. However, it is not recommended for complete beginners.

IELTS Preparation Course (IPC)
Age: 15-18
Course Length: 3 Weeks
Classes: 15 Hours / Week
Minimum English Level Required: Intermediate

IELTS Preparation Course (IPC) is designed for intermediate and advanced students who plan to study at an English language university and who will need to take the IELTS Academic Test. Throughout the course, students learn strategies and develop the skills necessary for success on the test. Practice tests are used throughout the program. 

Please note that this course is highly focused on test preparation and may not be suitable for students who do not intend to take the IELTS test in the near future.

IPC is a good fit for you if:
- you intend to take the IELTS Academic Test in the near future;
- you plan to study in an English-speaking country and want to prepare for the IELTS;
- you need practice in test-taking strategies and the skills necessary for success on the IELTS.

Academic Preparation Course (APC)
Age: 15-18
Course Length: 3 Weeks
Classes: 15 Hours / Week
Minimum English Level Required: Intermediate

The Academic Preparation Course (APC) is designed to help motivated high school students improve their core language proficiency using the genres, skills, and activities essential for success at a university. This course uses content primarily from the social sciences and humanities to practice transferable skills that apply to multiple undergraduate programs. The curriculum focuses on critical reading, seminar participation, research skills, and a variety of genre-specific writing tasks to become well-prepared for university study in English.

APC is a good fit for you if:
- you are interested in pursuing a post-secondary education in an English-speaking institution;
- you want to improve your language and develop academic skills for success in university courses;
- you enjoy a challenging study environment.

Intensive English Course (IEC)
Age: 13-18
Course Length: 3 Weeks
Classes: 15 Hours / Week
Levels Offered: All Levels

The Intensive English Course (IEC) is designed to promote intercultural communication through the lens of youth interests, students will participate in creative group projects to demonstrate collaboration and critical skills. Alongside media and information literacy, these three skills will be practiced through the improvement of reading and writing skills, from input texts from short stories and social media posts to student-generated products like blogs and infographics. This course is ideally suited to students who enjoy reading a variety of both fiction and nonfiction texts and would like to produce their own informed opinions through creative genres and/or online platforms.

IEC is a good fit for you if:
- you wish to expand and enhance the content covered in your morning class;
- you would like further practice in reading and writing;
- you are ready to engage with texts from different sources.

Culture & Community Course (CCC)
Age: 15-18
Course Length: 3 Weeks
Classes: 15 Hours / Week
Minimum English Level Required: Intermediate

Being a modern citizen involves valuing the differences and recognizing the similarities between diverse groups of people. Our Culture & Community course for youth is designed to give young people engaging opportunities to improve their core language proficiency while exploring approaches to intercultural communication and developing projects that involve a community-centred approach to learning. Students will explore cultural content locally from Toronto, regionally from Canada, and globally from student cultures and beyond to better understand how context impacts communication. This course requires students to be active learners and work collaboratively on a project that can positively impact a local campus-based community area through classroom instruction that focuses on exploring communication strategies, raising cultural awareness, and identifying potential challenges.

CCC is a good fit for you if:
- you would like to improve your ability to communicate in English;
- you have an interest in learning about Toronto and Canada cultural contexts;
- you have an interest in spending more time in Canada in the future.

Global Commerce Course (GCC)
Age: 15-18
Course Length: 3 Weeks
Classes: 15 Hours / Week
Minimum English Level Required: Intermediate

The Global Commerce Course (GCC) is designed to help motivated high school students improve their core language proficiency using the genres, skills, and activities essential to communication within a commerce-focused career path. This course draws content from a variety of local and international office communications situations, leadership and management styles, marketing and social media environments, and entrepreneurial approaches. Students will have the opportunity to apply skills learned in class to multiple global commerce situations that suit their future interests. Students will engage with authentic case studies and be expected to actively participate and contribute to all coursework.

GCC is a good fit for you if:
- you are interested in a commerce-related career that required English in the future;
- you want to improve your language and develop communication skills in commerce contexts;
- you enjoy a challenging study environment.

Format

All Youth IEP students will live at New College Residence. This is a unique opportunity for students to live with their classmates from all around the world, learn about different cultures, practice communicating in English, and become a part of the community!

The New College Residence is a safe and secure dormitory-style accommodation, located at the University of Toronto’s St. George Campus, in the middle of downtown. Students will be within walking distance of many great famous Toronto neighborhoods, shopping centers, and sites that we will visit during activities.

The dormitory-style living facilities offer each student a comfortable and air-conditioned room with high-speed internet access. Students are assigned to single and double rooms based on availability. We do accept rooming requests, but cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate them.

Evaluation and Certificate

At the end of the General English Course, students receive a personalized evaluation and those who succeed are rewarded a certificate of course completion from University of Toronto, New College

In order to receive a program certificate, students must:
actively participate in class activities and discussions.
show improved fluency and accuracy over the course of the program.
complete their final project to the satisfaction of the teacher.

Class Placement

All Youth IEP classes are assigned based on the results of our written test and a one-to-one interview with a teacher. Students and parents should understand that there is no predetermined cutoff for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels: students will be grouped with others of similar experience, based on the abilities they show on the test.

CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS
Once you apply, an invoice for your outstanding balance will be sent to you with your acceptance package. You will have until the Final Payment Deadline to pay your full fees. The $500 program fee deposit will hold your spot in the program until you complete your payments.

If you decide to cancel your registration, please refer to the refund deadlines. The $500 program fee deposit is non-refundable. After the 50% refund deadline, all program fees are non-refundable.

IMPORTANT
Refunds may only be returned to the same method of payment. Credit card payments will be returned to the same credit card number. Please ensure that your credit card can accept refunds.
Wire transfers will also be returned to the same account, and additional documents may be required. A CAD $60 fee will be deducted to cover any bank fees. Please note that wire transfer refunds may take 3 weeks to be processed.

VISA REFUSALS
In a case of a visa refusal, we can provide a full refund (excluding the $500 non-refundable deposit fee) regardless of the deadlines upon receiving a copy of the official visa refusal letter from the Canadian immigration office (IRCC). All refund requests must be submitted by email by September 1, 2024 to be processed.
