Yale Summer Session seeks motivated high school students who wish to enroll in Yale College courses for credit. While enrolled in Yale courses, qualified high school students will share the classroom with college students and will do college-level work. All participants will be held to the same set of standards.

• Pre-college students, including those who have just graduated from high school, are required to live on campus unless they live with their family within commuting distance of New Haven if they are taking in-person courses. Pre-college students taking only online courses are not required to live on campus.
• Pre-college students who live on campus must take two courses in each session that they are living on campus.
• They are expected to remain on campus overnight except when participating in activities sponsored by Yale Summer Session, or when they have written permission from a parent or guardian to leave campus for a pre-determined, specified amount of time.
• Yale undergraduates serve as residential counselors and provide support and assistance.
• All students under the age of 18 live in the same residential college and are subject to a curfew and other special regulations. Students 18 years of age or older are housed separately.
• Two courses per session is the maximum enrollment.
• If you are attending online courses, you may choose one or two courses per session.
• If you are attending classes in-person, you must select two courses per session per the requirements of the F-1 student visa. You must be enrolled full-time if you attend in-person. Those wishing to take a science plus a lab (1.5 credits) will need to enroll in an additional 1 credit course (for a total of 2.5 credits) to meet the F-1 visa requirement.
• Yale Summer Session accepts qualified applicants who will have completed their junior or senior year of high school at the time the summer session they attend begins.
• Must be entering the senior year of high school (summer after junior year) or freshman year of college (summer after senior year).
• Must be 16 years of age or older by their program start date.
All students require:
1. Online Application
2. High School Transcript with at least 2.5 years of grades. Contact the University if your transcript does not have at least 2.5 years of grades.
3. An unofficial transcript or academic record in English is required as part of the application to Yale Summer Session.
The online application enables applicants to upload an unofficial copy of their academic transcript. All academic transcripts must show the name of the institution, dates of enrollment, and the subjects or courses taken, together with the units of credit or time allotted to each subject and the final grade. Applications are evaluated holistically; therefore, we do not have a GPA requirement.
4. Two Letters of Recommendation: one from a current teacher and one from a guidance counselor.
5. SAT/PSAT/ACT test scores are optional for 2023 at Yale Summer Session. Applicants who are unable to complete an exam or who choose not to report exam scores will not be disadvantaged.
International student additionally require:
1. Proof of English Proficiency: required if you will be taking Yale courses for credit.
DET 120+/ TOEFL iBT 100/ TOEFL Paper-delivered Test 75/ IELTS 70+/ Pearson Test of English (PTE) 70+
2. Financial Documentation (in English) with your name listed in the document. You must provide proof that you have sufficient financial resources to meet summer program tuition, fees, and living expenses. Such proof must be less than six months old and must be one of the following. If it is your parent's bank account, you should include the financial documentation plus a letter from your parent or guardian stating they will cover your fees and the letter must include your name: for students who will study in-prson with us.
a. An original letter from your bank stating specifically that you have sufficient resources to meet all expenses for the program OR
b. A bank statement showing that you have sufficient resources to meet all expenses for the program OR
c. An original letter from a scholarship organization that will pay your expenses.
3. Identity page of your passport: for students who will study in-person with us.
4. Immunization records: for students who will study in-person with us and live on or off campus.
5. Health Insurance.
Visa requirements for international students studying in-person:
1. Valid Student F-1 visa. You may not attend Yale Summer Session on a B-1 or B-2 (tourist visa). If you are in the United States on another visa category, you will need to upload your current US entry documents with your Summer Session application, and we will review it to determine whether you need to apply for an F-1 visa.
2. Form I-20, that you will receive 3 weeks after you are admitted to the program
3. Paid SEVIS fee and be registered with the SEVIS Department of Homeland Security
4. Canadian citizens require an I-20, but do not need to get a visa

Additionally for international students only:
• Visa Processing Fee (for international students only - nonrefundable) - $100

Financial Aid
Visiting students should contact the financial aid office at their home institutions to discuss their options for financial assistance. Federal regulations prohibit Yale's Student Financial Services from processing any federal financial aid for students who are not enrolled in a degree program at Yale. Student Financial Services will, however, consider certifying nonfederal supplemental loans.
